About Hospice of North Central Ohio
Hospice of North Central Ohio is a non-profit, community-oriented organization serving the following counties: Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Morrow, and Richland. Our dedicated professionals are driven to make a difference in the lives of those we serve, and we are blessed to do so with our community's support. Hospice of North Central Ohio is an agency of the United Way of Ashland County, Shelby United Fund, New London United Fund, and Mohican Area Community Fund. To better serve the community, we are affiliated with We Honor Veterans, Midwest Care Alliance, and National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. We also work closely with local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
In order to affirm life and recognize death as a natural process, Hospice will care for patients and their loved ones, empower them to cope with terminal illness to enhance the quality of life as they prepare for a peaceful and dignified death, and continuously improve the delivery of quality care. We will assist and serve as a resource in the processes of death, dying, grief, and bereavement.
Linda Hickey, RN, BSN, MBA, is the Chief Executive Officer of Hospice of North Central Ohio. James Mooney, MD, is the medical director. As a community organization, Hospice of North Central Ohio is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors.
Our doctors, nurses, social workers, bereavement staff, and others are available for community speaking engagements and can be reached at 800-952-2207 or by email to make arrangements.
As the hospice movement became more prominent in the United States, efforts to establish a local hospice in North Central Ohio began, leading to the hiring of the first executive director in the fall of 1988. In January of 1989, Hospice of North Central Ohio served its first patient and family. We have continued to grow over the years to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Hospice House, our 12-bed inpatient unit, opened in November of 2006. What Goes Round Thrift Shoppe, which supports Hospice of North Central Ohio, opened in Mansfield in September 2008.
