"I find deep satisfaction in lending support and assistance to families going through difficult times." -- Shirley, Hospice Volunteer
Hospice depends upon its dedicated and committed volunteers. A Hospice volunteer gains the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of others and receives immeasurable rewards. Last year, our volunteers logged over 13,000 hours! The following list identifies many of our volunteer opportunities.

- Special Wishes Fund
Raises funds, via an annual silent auction, for a variety of special items provided to Hospice patients.
The Special Wishes Fund began in 1997 when a group of Hospice volunteers got together to make a quilt to raise money for patients' non-medical needs. The quilt was displayed at various establishments throughout North Central Ohio, and over 3,000 tickets were sold!
Since its inception, fundraising for Special Wishes has evolved into an annual silent auction held in September during the Ashland County Fair. Hospice employees, volunteers, and individuals in North Central Ohio communities donate beautifully handcrafted items for the auction. Approximately 25 items are donated each year.
Money from the Special Wishes Fund has been used for patient birthday or anniversary parties and to purchase reading glasses, hand held showers heads, phone cards, sketch pads, snack foods, baby monitors, material for patient bed gowns, bedroom slippers, robes, bed sheets, mattress pads, TV remote controls, plant stands, hair appointments, note cards, magazines, baby dolls, etc. These are just a few of the items supported by Special Wishes. Many are not expensive, but something as little as a Teddy Bear or baby doll can mean so much to someone who is dying.
