Surrounded by beautiful woods and gardens, Hospice House is a twelve-bed inpatient center specifically designed to feel like a home away from home and cater to the needs of both patients and their families. Hospice House is available to patients who need assistance with pain or symptom management; patients in need of medication adjustment, observation, or other stabilizing treatment; or those who need short-term respite care. Patients may also use Hospice House for a short-term stay after being discharged from the hospital to allow for an easier transition to home.
Hospice House Amenities
Individual Rooms
All patient rooms are private and include a state-of-the art bed, 25" flat screen television, DVD/VCR player, CD player/radio, internet access, and two telephones. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows allow for beautiful views of surrounding gardens and woods.
Patients are encouraged to bring personal items from home to give their rooms an even more home-like feel. A favorite picture, quilt, or knick-knacks, for example, can personalize a patient's room and make it even more comfortable.
Visitors are encouraged and welcomed 24 hours a day. There are no age restrictions. Roll-away beds, shower, and laundry facilities are available for family members who wish to stay overnight. Well-mannered pets may also visit but are not able to stay overnight.
Patient Spa
With warm, soothing colors, heated tile floor, shower, and state-of-the art whirlpool tub, the Spa Room offers patients a unique opportunity for relaxation and bathing. A barber chair also allows patients to have their hair cut or styled by their own hairdressers.
Family Room
Our family room is available to all guests and serves as a comfortable place for relaxation. Furnishings include a sofa, chairs, a table for games, and a flat-screen television with a DVD/VCR player. There is also a family kitchenette and dining area.
Great Room
Also available to all guests, the Great Room is a more formal atmosphere that serves as a gathering place for patients and families or a place to be alone with your thoughts. It can even serve as place to cozy up with a good book.
Chapel
The Chapel may be used by anyone seeking a peaceful, quiet place for reflection, prayer, or meditation. Memorial services or other events may also be held here.
Your own pastor is encouraged to visit Hospice House. If you do not have clergy of your own, a Hospice Chaplain will visit at your request.
"We wanted to have a memorial service in the Chapel because it became such a special place for us to pray together as a family while my father was in Hospice House."
Lobby Lounge
This inviting room serves as a waiting area for anyone who visits Hospice House or as yet another place for relaxation.
Library
This small, intimate setting can be used for research, reading, quiet time, or consultation. Fiction and non-fiction books, as well as videos and tapes, on a variety of subjects are available.
Kitchen
Patient meals, individually ordered via room service, are prepared and delivered by our staff. All menus are prepared by the Hospice Registered Dietitian. Guests/visitors may also purchase homemade meals during regularly scheduled hours.
The Outdoors
Three-season rooms at the end of each Hospice House patient wing offer guests and visitors the experience of an outdoor living room, while meandering walkways welcome guests to experience the soothing power of nature. Walk by the stately woods and gardens and hear the melody of birds or see deer, rabbits, and squirrels bounding through the brush.
An outdoor play area allows children who are visiting the opportunity to have fun swinging, sliding, or climbing.
Who cares for the patient while in Hospice House?
A dedicated and professional team (medical directors, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, dietitians, chaplains, and volunteers) works together to provide quality, compassionate care. A patient's primary physician may continue to follow the patient in Hospice House or choose to have the Hospice Medical Director take over care for the duration of the stay. Upon the patient's discharge from the facility, the primary physician can resume care.
What does this type of care cost?
Medicare covers the general inpatient (pain/symptom management or round-the-clock care) and respite levels of care (caregiver needs relief). Residential care would be private pay based on the family's financial situation.
Since 1989, over 4,000 terminally ill patients and their families have experienced comfort, compassion, and dignity at the end of life with the help of Hospice of North Central Ohio. It is our mission to enhance quality of life as patients and families prepare for a peaceful, dignified death. Hospice House is an extension of that mission and another example of our commitment to the delivery of quality care.
