Ohio Memorial Walkway


In 1996 this beautifully landscaped brick walkway was constructed to serve as a place for people to honor or memorialize a loved one.

Hospice of North Central Ohio provides bereavement services to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. The program provides guidance and help for individuals who are sorting out thoughts and feelings and learning ways to cope with grief. The following list explains many of these services.

Community Outreach

  • Educational Programs
    Various educational programs that help people deal with grief and loss.

  • Holiday Workshop: Handling the Holidays
    Workshops offered in November and December that focus on learning how to cope with the holidays following the death of a loved one.

  • Corporate Program: Grief in the Workplace:
    Programs designed to empower employees so that they can learn how to personally and professionally come to terms with grief and loss.

  • School Outreach Program
    School-based in-service programs that help teachers, administrators, and counselors understand issues related to child and teen grief.

  • Caregiver Support Groups:
    Group gatherings offered to individuals who are primary caregivers to ill or elderly loved ones.

  • Supplemental Paid Caregiver Fund:
    Program established to provide financial assistance to qualified and low income families. These funds can be used to hire additional caregivers who can either assist in the care of a loved one or help with other tasks requiring payment.

    Note: At times, this fund may be utilized for other family needs. Check with your Hospice social worker for more information.

    Important: Families must qualify for the Supplemental Paid Caregiver Fund program. For more information, contact Hospice.

  • It helps persons to find healthy ways to cope with loss and regain control of their lives.

Support Services

  • Grief Support
    Services that are available on a short-term basis for bereaved individuals or families who need special support and guidance as they face the realities of loss and the subsequent change in their lives.

  • Crisis Intervention
    A program that provides support services to persons in the community who must deal with sudden or violent deaths. This includes services to individuals, schools, churches, and business organizations.

  • Memorial Services, Annual Tree of Lights Service, Memorial Walkway Dedication Service
    Special services that provide an opportunity for both bereaved families involved with Hospice and bereaved persons in the community at large to celebrate and remember their loved ones.

Costs

  • Thanks to the generous support of individuals and agencies in the community, these programs are offered at no cost. However, donations are accepted and appreciated.

Support Groups

Rekindling the Hope (Registration Required)
A support group for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This provides an opportunity for growth and healing for individuals who need to begin or continue the grief process. This is a six week session offered several times a year and is facilitated by Licensed Social Workers. Both daytime and evening groups are available.

New Horizons (Reservation Not Required)
An ongoing group designed to help widows and widowers to find friendship and reinvestment. This group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM at Perkins Family Restaurant on Rt. 250 in Ashland. Trips and events are planned for the group throughout the year.

Men's Lunch Bunch (Reservation Not Required)
An ongoing group designed for men who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other. This group meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 11:30 AM at Perkins Family Restaurant on Rt. 250 in Ashland.

KIDSUPPORT (Reservation Not Required)
Designed for children in grades kindergarten through 6 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group meets for 2 hours one Saturday per month. This is facilitated by Licensed Social Workers. Please contact Hospice of North Central Ohio for location information.

KIDSCENE Camp
(Pre-registration and Acceptance Required)

A summer day camp for children in grades kindergarten through 6 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. It provides a safe environment for kids to share and learn about the grieving process. This takes place in the first week of August. The camp is located at Camp Mowana on Rt. 42 in Mansfield, Ohio. Contact camp director Diane Park, LSW.
