Grief affects us  physically, emotionally, behaviorally, and spiritually. Any or all of the following feelings and behaviors are normal during your grief journey, but also vary within each individual and family. Emotional responses to grief may include:

  • Difficulty believing your loved one is gone
  • Anxiety, panic
  • Irritability or anger
  • Guilt, regret, relief, release
  • Confusion, disorganization

Physical responses to grief may include:

  • Weight loss/weight gain
  • Weakness/trembling
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Prone to colds and other illnesses
  • Sleep/not sleeping

Behavioral responses to grief may include:

  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Staying extremely busy
  • "Grief attacks"
  • Forgetfulness and restlessness

Spiritual responses to grief may include:

  • Search for meaning
  • Change in relationship with God
  • Difficulty attending worship
  • Questioning faith/beliefs
